Jobs for an injured ironworker that is qualified for having college covered by workman's comp.

My partner injured his back on the job and was just deemed unfit to return to his job due to his injury not improving. He is unable to lift heavy items frequently due to back pain.
Workman’s comp will pay for his schooling for whatever career he chooses to do instead, but he is at loss for what to do and is looking for tips. He has only worked doing ironwork since high school.
Any tips for lucrative jobs that he may be interested in/well suited for? He is willing and interested in going to college if necessary, especially since the degree would be paid for. He is great at talking to anyone and everyone. He is not a guy that would do well being confined to an office all day. The first thing that came to mind was sales, but what kind would be best for an ex-construction worker?
Open to all ideas! Thank you!
